Inauguration

This week’s topic (which also marks the first installment in the Monday Unleaded weekly digest) is as symbolic as it is timely. Today, America commemorates its 57th Presidential Inauguration, and second inauguration of its first African American president, Barack Obama.

Couple this with a national holiday for civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr., and observance of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and you have yourself a pretty special day! While I am sure many will speculate that I planned this, I ensure you that it’s by a twist of fate, and perhaps the one time I am grateful to its bullheadedness!

Allow me to share the history of Monday Unleaded with you. Simply put, it’s a “take-charge, create-your-own-opportunities” attitude I’ve exerted for many years. I came up with it by observing different leaders; successful people who are widely regarded as movers and shakers. These people never take “no” for an answer. Everything they do is big, much like a presidential inauguration.

That’s what makes this day not only perfect, but appropriate for launching Monday Unleaded. I really believe this weekly digest will inspire people from all walks of life! I was certainly frustrated when priorities forced me to modify the original launch date of January 7th (the first Monday in 2013), but what better day to launch, or inaugurate such a project, than on Inauguration Day, itself?

The same applies to any individual who is driven to achieve great things—and not just on this day. Any random event can occur, but special moments are captured and commemorated, just as leaders are inaugurated. Let’s keep this in mind as we explore success and opportunity in the weekly digests to come.

As voice coach Robert Love suggests, we should all unleash our star-quality and become the superstars of our own lives! Never think of yourself as just another hireling; each of us is charged with a great task that only WE as individuals can achieve! So the next time you land a job, receive a promotion, launch a project, or simply reach a personal goal, treat it as your very own inauguration!

This is your fuel for the week of January 21, 2013!  Have a productive week!
